Location Based Services
In today's competitive telecom landscape, mobile operators continuously seek new innovative data services to compensate for the commoditization of voice revenue. One such upcoming area is Location Based Services (LBS). Location based services allow mobile operators to provide business and consumer applications based on location.
Location Tracking Methods
Location of the caller is generally determined by various position determination techniques. Technologies in use by wireless carriers today are handset-centric and network-centric, which provide different levels of positional accuracy, hardware and software investments and implications for them.
Location determination technologies include Cell ID, Enhanced Observer time difference (E-OTD), Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA), Wireless Assisted GPS (A-GPS) and hybrid technologies (combining A-GPS with other standard technologies). |
